The fire south of the Limassol–Paphos highway, near the Pissouri exit, was finally brought under control shortly before 8:00 p.m.
According to the latest update from the Fire Department, the aircraft have already been withdrawn after completing their water drops, as have the volunteer teams and the teams from the Forestry Department, the District Administration, Civil Defense, the Pissouri Community, and the British Bases.
Fire trucks from the Fire Service, as well as from the Game and Wildlife Service, will remain on site on standby and to carry out final extinguishing of any remaining fire pockets.
The fire burned four hectares of dry grass, wild vegetation, trees, and piles of trash and scrap materials.
It should be noted that the fire broke out shortly before 3:00 p.m., putting the police and fire department on alert. Traffic police closed the road for about an hour, diverting traffic to the old Limassol-Paphos road.
At the scene, a strong ground crew protected individual homes, while aerial firefighting operations continued to drop water on the fire.
The Chief Fire Officer and General Fire Coordinator was at the Operations Center at Fire Service Headquarters to coordinate efforts.
The Fire Service was supported by the British Bases, the Forestry Department, the Game and Wildlife Service, the District Administration, the Pissouri Community Council, and the volunteer groups Atlas-Zeus, Kitas Weather, SupportCY, Blue Heart, and Rescue 1.
