The framework and criteria for providing financial assistance to citizens affected by the recent deadly storm were established by the Council of Ministers, distinguishing between compensation for insured and uninsured properties.

Appearing on the “Alpha Kalimera” program, Margarita Kyriakou, Press Officer for the Ministry of the Interior, provided a detailed breakdown of the categories, the maximum compensation amounts, and the process for submitting claims and receiving payments.

Referring initially to reports that had surfaced regarding aid of up to 45,000 euros, Ms. Kyriakou clarified that this figure is “somewhat misleading,” noting that “not everyone has suffered the same losses.” As she explained, for properties and vehicles that are insured, the procedure is clear: state aid will cover the estimated damage up to the policy’s deductible.

For privately owned primary residences without insurance coverage, assistance amounts to 80% of the estimated damage, with a maximum of 20,000 euros for the building, while for household equipment, 100% of the damage is covered, with a cap of 15,000 euros.

Particular emphasis was placed on photovoltaic systems, which accounted for the largest volume of damage. As the Ministry spokesperson emphasized, “most reports were for damage to photovoltaic systems,” for which assistance will amount to 80% of the damage, capped at 7,000 euros.

As for uninsured commercial properties, compensation for the building amounts to 70% of the damage (up to 30,000 euros) and for business equipment, 100% (up to 10,000 euros). At the same time, for uninsured vehicles, coverage of 75% of the damage is provided, with a maximum of 5,000 euros, provided that the vehicle has a valid registration (or a certificate of immobilization), a valid vehicle inspection certificate, and third-party liability insurance.

Regarding immediate repairs, Ms. Kyriakou emphasized that as long as the damage has been documented or the necessary photographic evidence has been submitted electronically, residents may proceed with repairs.

“If the damage affects the functionality and daily life of the household, the citizen may proceed with the repair, and compensation will be provided as soon as possible.”

Finally, he reminded everyone that the deadline for the District Administrations to submit data and complete their assessments is Monday, September 7, so that the assessment and disbursement of funds can follow immediately.
