Teams from the Department of Agriculture are on the ground in the affected areas of the Paphos District, conducting preliminary assessments of the damage caused by the extreme weather events, while announcements are expected regarding the eligibility of beneficiaries to submit damage claims.
Speaking to CNA, the First Agricultural Insurance Officer at the Paphos District Office, Kostas Neophytou, stated that 45 damage reports have been recorded so far, concerning, among other things, greenhouses, vegetables, grapevines, and avocado crops.

Damage has been reported in the areas of Lysos, Argaka, Pomos, Gialia, Statos–Agios Fotios, and Panagia.
As Mr. Neophytou explained, the Department of Agriculture’s teams are currently assessing the damage. He explained that when damage is reported, officials visit the site to determine whether the damage is eligible for compensation. If it is determined that the damages meet the criteria for compensation, a relevant announcement will be issued so that eligible claimants can file damage claims.
Subsequently, according to Mr. Neophytou, the necessary assessments will be carried out, the relevant findings will be issued, and the process will proceed to the stage of payment to eligible recipients.
When asked about this, Mr. Neophytou described this year’s extreme weather events as unprecedented in terms of the extent of the damage, noting that while hailstorms during the summer months had been recorded in the past—roughly once every two to three years—"this year the damage was extensive."
In conclusion, he urged affected farmers to contact their local District Offices of the Department of Agriculture, in order to report their losses and follow the prescribed procedure for recording and assessing them.
