Customs officials seized tobacco products at the Agios Dometios and Deryneia crossing points, during routine inspections to enforce the Green Line Regulation.
Specifically, according to a statement from the Customs Department, yesterday, Sunday, at the Agios Dometios crossing point, 49 cartons of 200 cigarettes each were found in the luggage of five passengers in a taxi with Turkish Cypriot license plates.
According to the statement, those involved were initially arrested for offenses committed in flagrante delicto, but were later released after their proposal for an out-of-court settlement of the cases was accepted, with the payment of a total of €4,000.
Today, Monday, at the Deryneia crossing point, 10 cartons of 200 cigarettes each were found in the luggage of a 49-year-old woman who was riding in a taxi with Turkish Cypriot license plates.
According to the statement, the woman was initially arrested for the offenses committed in flagrante delicto, but was later released after her proposal for an out-of-court settlement of the case was accepted, with the payment of €600.
