The Avgorou Cultural Group “Dimiourgein” is hosting the traditional “Lakkirtin Fest” music and dance festival on July 19 for yet another year in the streets of the Avgorou community.
Speaking on the “Alpha News” program, Kyriaki Neophytou, a founding member of the group, discussed the history and vision of the event, which has now established itself as an important cultural institution in the region.
Ms. Neophytou noted that the festival’s net proceeds will be donated to charity.
The festival will kick off at the Avgorou Ethnographic Museum at 6:00 p.m.
The program will begin with a traditional parade through the village streets, accompanied by musical instruments and street musicians.
The first stop will be the village square, where the Limassol Folklore Society will perform traditional dances from Thrace.
Next, we’ll proceed to the restored Tsibouris House, in whose courtyard the “By the Lake” Cultural Workshop will be held, showcasing elements of our folk tradition.
Afterward, we’ll head to the square in front of the Church of St. George, where a traditional festival will take place, and our young visitors will have the chance to enjoy activities and a theatrical performance.
Upon completing the tour, we will head to the Avgorou Ethnographic Museum. There, the evening will culminate in a grand traditional celebration with live music performed by a large ensemble of musicians, featuring the Kuprum Orchestra.
Please note that at the festival grounds, visitors will also be able to enjoy souvlaki, snacks, and ice cream, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The festival’s goal is to revive, preserve, and promote Cypriot traditions through music, dance, and folk arts, offering an authentic cultural experience to visitors of all ages.
