“Shahriar Ahmed Emon, originally from Lotsonpur in Raipur, who had been abducted in Cyprus, is no longer with us. His body was found in the Larnaca district. I pray that God may rest his soul, and I extend my sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. According to reports, following his abduction, a ransom of approximately 50 million taka was demanded from his family. This case ended in the most tragic way possible—with his death. What a terrible tragedy… He left his homeland in search of a more peaceful and safe life abroad, but his journey came to a tragic end. To those of you who are far from your home country, please be especially careful.”

“Our brother is no longer with us. A young life was lost in the most violent and unjust way at the hands of his kidnappers. It is difficult to comprehend how such a crime could occur in a country like Cyprus, which is considered technologically advanced and safe. A country chosen by millions of people from all over the world to travel to, study in, and live in failed to protect the life of a young man from Bangladesh.

We demand answers. Where were the safety measures, the technology, and the relevant authorities when Imon needed help? Why was it not possible to save him? Why is his family now forced to endure this unbearable pain? We call on the government of Bangladesh to demand full accountability from the Cypriot authorities regarding their handling of this case. We demand a swift, transparent, and impartial investigation so that all those responsible are identified and brought to justice, facing the maximum punishment provided by law. He will never return. But justice must be served. No other child, no other family, should have to endure such a tragedy.”

“When the dream of a better life is extinguished forever: The tragic end of the abducted Bangladeshi student Shahruar Ahmed Emon in Cyprus…

When a child from a middle- or lower-middle-class family leaves for a foreign country, they do not travel alone. Traveling with them are the hopes of the entire family, the expectation of a better life, and the hope that the sacrifices and debts incurred to make this journey possible will be repaid. But when that dream returns in a coffin, the pain and devastation experienced by the family are impossible to put into words.

Recently, 22-year-old Bangladeshi Shahruar Ahmed Emon traveled to the Republic of Cyprus on a student visa, seeking a better life. His journey to Europe was anything but easy. For a long time, he tried to travel to various European countries, including Romania and Moldova. After many difficulties, he finally managed to reach Cyprus, but fate had a tragic end in store for him.

Emon was living in Oroklini, in the Larnaca district. On June 12, he went missing after leaving his home to go to a new workplace where he was set to start a job. Before he went missing, he sent his location to a friend and also sent a final message to his father, who is in Greece, asking for help.

What followed was a dramatic turn of events. According to reports, he was kidnapped by a group of perpetrators who demanded a huge sum of money from his family as a ransom.

The family, which had already made enormous financial sacrifices to send him abroad, was unable to raise such a large sum. Their financial hardship and inability to raise the money appear to have proved fatal. Today, the family is faced with the most tragic outcome: the loss of their child.

The loss of a young life in such a violent manner is an unspeakable tragedy. With the discovery of Emon’s remains, the hopes and dreams of an entire family have been shattered forever. This is a loss that cannot be replaced.

This tragic case brings to light some difficult truths:

• Safety concerns abroad: Many young people who travel abroad on student visas or for work often lack adequate information or protection.

• Danger from criminal networks: In many cases, migrants and students become targets of international or local criminal networks, both on their way to Europe and after their arrival.

The murder of Shahruar Ahmed Emon must not be repeated. Young people who wish to go abroad must carefully verify the legality and reliability of the procedures they follow, stay informed about security conditions in their destination country, and take all necessary protective measures.

Particular caution is required to avoid dangerous or irregular cross-border movements, which may expose them to serious risks.

We express our sincere condolences to the family of Shahruar Ahmed Emon and wish his loved ones strength and courage to endure this difficult ordeal.

At the same time, we call for a full investigation into the case and for all those responsible to be brought to justice so that they may be held accountable for this heinous crime.”

“Dad, how could you leave me behind and go? I didn’t know that when I came to a foreign country, I would lose you…”
