The Forestry Department sees evidence of arson behind the fires that have broken out in the Paphos district in recent days.
Speaking on the Alpha Summer program, Forestry Department Spokesperson Glafkos Kyriakou stated that there are indications of malicious acts, and specifically regarding the fire that broke out in Liso on Saturday, it falls within the “triangle” of arson incidents.
“It is a triangle that stretches from Prodromi to Drousia to Liso, where we have seen repeated incidents in recent years. This has caused us immense concern, this, and especially during the recent fires in Liso, where—while a major incident was underway and our forces were trying to stop the fire— protect the community, a new fire broke out just 500 meters away, which we fortunately managed to contain.”
He notes that this points to a possible act of arson, which they are investigating in cooperation with the police.

Using a fire hydrant, a citizen managed to stop the fire that broke out early Monday morning in Marathasa. Specifically, the citizen, making use of the fire hydrant installed at the site, utilized the community’s fire safety system extinguishing the fire caused by birds coming into contact with exposed wires in the power distribution network.
