“Together with the Mother and the Baby”: This is the title of the new support program for young families approved today by the Cabinet, which centers on home visits by social workers. The goal is to identify potential difficulties faced by the family in a timely manner and, where necessary, to coordinate with other relevant services.
Home Visits to New Families
Following the Cabinet meeting, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Tina Pavlou explained that through home visits to new families, it will be possible to identify the needs and difficulties that the mother and baby may be facing. At the same time, where deemed necessary, families will be able to be referred to other services so they can receive the appropriate support.
Baby Supply Package
At the same time, the plan also includes providing a baby care package to eligible families who receive the Minimum Guaranteed Income (MGI) and child allowance. The goal is to support approximately 1,000 new families through a combination of practical and social support.
To be implemented in the first quarter of 2027
According to the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, the goal is to complete the relevant procedures and have the new plan implemented during the first quarter of 2027.
As she noted, this is a plan that combines in-home social support with practical assistance for families during the period following the birth of a child.
