The Council of Ministers approved today, Wednesday, the appointment of the first Board of Directors of the National Center for Clinical Evidence, a move that now paves the way for the Center to begin full-scale operations and carry out the important work entrusted to it.

In a statement following the Cabinet’s decision, the Minister of Health, Neophytos Charalambides, described the creation of the National Center for Clinical Evidence as “a significant reform for the health care system,” noting that with the appointment of the first Board of Directors, the conditions for the Center’s effective operation are now in place.

As he noted, the Center will establish a structured and scientifically grounded mechanism for evaluating and utilizing knowledge and data in clinical practice, with the aim of developing and implementing modern protocols and guidelines.

The protocols and guidelines will be based, according to the Minister of Health, on international scientific data and best practices, strengthening the link between scientific knowledge and the day-to-day delivery of health services.

Mr. Charalambidis also emphasized the importance of clinical evidence for improving the quality, safety, and effectiveness of health services.

“Through the systematic application of scientific knowledge, the National Center for Clinical Evidence will help ensure more coherent and higher-quality care, for the benefit of both healthcare professionals and patients,” he said.

He noted that their priority “is to create a health system that is constantly evolving, makes use of scientific knowledge, and makes decisions based on evidence,” the Minister stated, noting that the National Center for Clinical Evidence “can serve as a key pillar in this effort.”

In closing, Mr. Charalambidis wished the members of the first Board of Directors “success and all the strength they need” in the mission they are undertaking, expressing his hope that the Center will play a substantial role in the effort to continuously improve the quality of health services.
