So what if the calendar says July 6, 2026? The Meteorological Service is forecasting rain and thunderstorms in mountainous areas, the interior and the north of the island, and a yellow warning has been issued, valid until 6:00 p.m.
Meteorological Service Spokesperson Andreas Chrysanthou explained that drivers traveling in mountainous areas should be very careful, as visibility may be limited. Unstable weather conditions will continue over the next two days, with rain and thunderstorms expected around midday in the mountainous regions and the interior of Cyprus.
Mr. Chrysanthou noted that current conditions are not conducive to hail, though it cannot be ruled out during a thunderstorm. Coastal areas are expected to remain sunny, with increased humidity during the day and fog in the morning.
Mr. Chrysanthou noted that temperatures are below seasonal averages, with a greater sense of coolness despite the high humidity in the morning and afternoon hours.
When asked whether the current weather conditions might signal a mild summer for Cyprus, he replied that temperatures in the 40s usually “hit” in mid-July.
