The three-day holiday weekend of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which we are currently celebrating, and in particular today’s feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, serve—as they do every year— an occasion for large crowds to gather and participate in events throughout all the coastal and mountainous regions of Cyprus.
The presence of the Police and its officers throughout the three-day holiday, is significant, with particularly heightened measures for the safety and protection of citizens, both in the various crowded areas that serve as the focal points of the festive events, as well as in tourist resorts and urban areas.
Particular emphasis is placed on the security measures taken by the police, is placed on road safety and the prevention of traffic accidents, as well as on the prevention of crimes such as burglaries and property theft.
At the same time, the Police are once again urging drivers to be very careful while driving and to comply with traffic signals and the instructions of officers on duty. The public is also urged to be especially careful when outdoors, as the risk of starting fires is extremely high.
On the occasion of today’s major Christian holiday, the Police extend their heartfelt wishes to everyone for a Happy New Year and a safe one!
