A retired Lieutenant General, “commander” of the “Turkish peacekeeping forces in Cyprus” with the initials B.M, was arrested at the Agios Dometios roadblock during an inspection of his vehicle at the Turkish Cypriot checkpoint when 305 kilograms of contraband meat were found in the trunk.

According to Geni Bakis, he had been arrested previously when he attempted to smuggle three suitcases of cigarette tobacco through the VIP passage at the illegal Tymbou Airport.

He was returning to the occupied territories, where he resides in Kyrenia, from the free areas. A total of 305.40 kilograms of boneless beef and 41 kilograms of lamb tail fat were found in his possession, with a total value of 411,370 TL (approximately 7,472 euros). The products were seized as evidence, and the suspect was arrested in the act. He was brought before the “court,” which released him on the condition that he not leave the pseudo-state, posted a bond of 80,000 TL (approximately 1,255 euros) in cash, the signing of a 600,000 TL (10,909 euros) surety bond by two guarantors, and his reporting to the police station once a week.
