Twenty drivers were caught drunk as police swept the streets

Thirteen arrests, hundreds of complaints, and impounded vehicles

There was a strong police presence and activity throughout Cyprus last night, with organized patrols conducted at key locations in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, maintain public order, and enhance the public’s sense of security.

As a result of these preventive policing operations, 13 individuals were arrested for various offenses, including illegal possession of drugs, breaking and entering and theft, possession of burglary tools, illegal residence in the Republic, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

As part of these operations, 700 vehicles were stopped for inspection overnight, and 981 individuals traveling in them were checked. At the same time, 97 premises were inspected to address violations, resulting in 13 complaints.

During the traffic checks that were carried out, 281 citations were issued for various traffic violations, and 20 cases of traffic violations are currently under investigation. As part of the police investigations, 15 vehicles were impounded.

Of the complaints filed for traffic violations, 127 concerned speeding. There were 20 reports of driving under the influence of alcohol, while three cases of driving under the influence of drugs were identified. A total of 186 drivers were tested for driving under the influence of alcohol, while four drivers were tested for driving under the influence of drugs.

Law enforcement operations, aimed at preventing and suppressing crime, continue daily, with an increased police presence, targeted checks, and immediate operational action, with the aim of protecting citizens and ensuring public order.
