Wednesday’s rainfall proved beneficial for Cyprus, with the highest rainfall amounts recorded in the mountainous areas, helping to boost inflows into the reservoirs.
Speaking on the “Alpha News” program, the Press Spokesperson for the Meteorological Service stated that the rains on Wednesday were quite beneficial for all regions of Cyprus, adding that there were no serious problems.
He emphasized that one of the reasons no significant problems were reported was the timely mobilization of government resources.
“Everything went smoothly.”
As he noted, the rainfall recorded yesterday ranged from 10 to 15 and 20 millimeters per ten minutes.
The Assessment
Regarding October’s rainfall, Mr. Chrysanthou stated that the total rainfall over the past 24 hours amounted to 21.3 millimeters, which corresponds to 42% of the total rainfall recorded this month.
The positive aspect of yesterday was that heavy rainfall was recorded in the mountainous areas, which are precisely the regions in need of rain to boost inflows into the reservoirs.
“Our mountainous regions received a lot of rain, and this will likely translate into inflows into the reservoirs much more easily.”
Regarding the weather forecast for the coming days, Mr. Chrysanthou stated that there will be rainfall, but not at a level that would require issuing a warning.
As he noted, today, Friday, and Saturday will see some mild episodes of isolated rain or brief thunderstorms, particularly today when the atmosphere is unstable.
On Sunday and Monday, the weather will improve considerably, with occasional cloud cover.
“This is a distinctly autumnal scene, and the current weather conditions on our island are very promising.”
