Outside the site where the asphalt plant is being built, and a few meters away from the excavators working feverishly, Andreas Papanastasiou, the community leader of Mitsero, decided to set up his “office,” as a sign of protest against the Supreme Court’s rejection of the request by residents of the surrounding communities to suspend construction work.
Under an awning, with a table and four chairs, Mr. Papanastasiou serves the needs of the residents of Mitsero, with a banner at the forefront that reads “Don’t kill our children’s future.”
As the residents of Mitsero make clear, they are determined to take strong action and file a complaint against the Republic of Cyprus with the European Commission, while they are preparing to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights to overturn the government’s plans to relocate the asphalt plant to their village.

Earlier, Agrokipia Community Leader Sotiris Kyriakou stated on the “Alpha News” program that, to date, the organized residents have not received a response to their request for a meeting with the President of the Republicto discuss the issue. As he said, all residents of the area will go to the location of Mitsero Community Leader’s office and remain there since “the situation has reached a breaking point.”
