Incredible images from the accident that occurred this morning at the roundabout near Nicosia General Hospital, involving three vehicles. Two of the vehicles were engulfed in flames and completely destroyed, while the third sustained damage.
The driver of one of the two vehicles that burned—and who caused the collision—is a 44-year-old special police officer who was off duty; as tests revealed, he was driving under the influence of alcohol and without a valid driver’s license. Criminal and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against him.
“All three drivers were given breathalyzer tests, with the 44-year-old special police officer testing positive with a final reading of 59 μg instead of 22, which is the legal limit,”.

The three drivers involved were transported by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where they received first aid.
The immediate intervention of a passing tanker truck driver proved crucial in preventing the worst from happening, while the Fire Department, the Forestry Department, and the EOA all rushed to the scene with a tanker truck.

“Since a vehicle is running and temperatures rise, there are hot metal parts, and a collision can result in a fuel leak; as you know, gasoline has a very low flash point; when it comes into contact with hot metal, if there’s a leak after the collision, it will certainly ignite.”

A fire can break out even in cases of electrical or mechanical problems. That is why regular maintenance is essential, and every vehicle owner must have a fire extinguisher.
