Night turned into day.
Citizens captured striking images across Cyprus due to intense electrical activity, capturing lightning bolts “tearing through” and illuminating the night sky.
“Generally, the eastern Mediterranean is affected by a weather system that’s causing quite a few phenomena. Most of them don’t directly affect the island itself. Most affect the coastal area, primarily to the west of the island. Just as we saw last night, we’ll see more of the same tonight and tomorrow.”

The situation is not expected to worsen, the Meteorological Service official clarifies.
“If you’re asking in general whether we’ll see phenomena like those observed in some other parts of Greece, it appears we won’t experience those phenomena. However, we will have some isolated phenomena—isolated thunderstorms in certain areas—which we hope will not be in urban areas or cause significant problems.”

As he said, it’s not out of the question that there could be lightning in the sky tonight as well.
“In the early morning hours, coastal areas—mainly Limassol and Paphos—may experience some thunderstorms that could be slightly more intense than the previous ones.”
Panagiotis Liggis – Meteorological Service Officer
Next week, through Wednesday, these weather phenomena are expected to be limited mainly to the afternoon hours, in mountainous areas, inland regions, and the north.
