As part of the cooperation between the Drug Enforcement Agency (YKAN) and Customs Authorities to identify individuals smuggling drugs into Cyprus, at approximately 2:15 p.m. today, acting on a tip from YKAN members, a customs officer stopped a 65-year-old man who had arrived at Larnaca Airport from abroad for inspection. During the inspection of his luggage, 10 nylon packages containing a suspicious liquid substance were discovered, which had been carefully concealed inside plastic cosmetic containers.
Further tests confirmed that the substance was liquid cocaine with a total gross weight of 4 kilograms.
The 65-year-old man was arrested on the spot and taken into custody to facilitate the investigation.
It should be noted that this is the first time liquid cocaine has been detected in Cyprus in such a quantity.
