Residents of the capital in the Strovolos and Latsia neighborhoods were awakened early in the morning by the smell of burning.
According to the Fire Department’s press officer, the smell and the visible smoke were caused by a fire that broke out in a large pile of prunings, tree trunks, and grass clippings, placed in an open area in Strovolos.

The area has been secured along its perimeter, and a fully staffed fire truck from the Fire Department remains on standby, until an excavator arrives—following notification from the Strovolos Municipality—to cover the materials with soil for complete extinguishment.
Due to wind conditions, the Strovolos–Latsia area is covered in smoke. The Fire Department’s initial response took place at 1:11 p.m. with two fire trucks.
