Members of the Fire Department have been called to extinguish a large fire that broke out in the Kokkinotrimithia area, burning next to the site of an abandoned shoe factoryshoe factory in the Dead Zone, consuming five decares of wild vegetation, scrap materials, and wooden pallets.

Fire Department Spokesperson Andreas Kettis announced on Platform X that four fully staffed fire trucks from the Fire, two fire trucks from organized volunteer firefighting teams, and a United Nations water tanker.
“The firefighting operation was carried out with United Nations support. Water drops were also made by an aircraft that was patrolling the area afterward, following coordination with the UN. The fire burned five decaria of wild vegetation, scrap materials, and wooden pallets. Two large, empty, old propane cylinders were also involved and were cooled as a precaution. The situation is under control.”

The Nicosia District Local Government Organization informs the public that “due to the extremely limited quantities of potable water available in the areas of Deneia, Mammari, and Kokkinotrimithia, combined with increased water demand from the Fire Department to combat the ongoing fire in the Mammari area, has placed an increased strain on the water supply system.”
“Therefore, all consumers, and especially residents of the above areas, are urged to exercise the utmost responsibility and limit their water consumption to absolutely essential uses only. The public is asked to avoid any non-essential use of water until further notice.”
The Nicosia Water Authority notes that “cooperation and understanding from everyone are essential to ensure sufficient water supplies to meet both firefighting needs and the basic water supply needs of the affected areas.”
“The Nicosia District Local Government Organization is closely monitoring the situation and will keep the public informed of any developments.”
