VIDEO: Rain and hail in the mountains, sweltering heat inland

Severe weather is expected in the coming days
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Rain and hail are expected Thursday at noon and in the early afternoon in the mountains, a pattern that is expected to continue over the next few days.

At the same time, in inland areas, the thermometer hit 40 degrees, amid a yellow heat warning from the Meteorological Service.

Specifically, temperatures reached 40 degrees at the Athalassa, Mammari, and Nicosia weather stations.

Meanwhile, as seen in a video posted by citizens on the “Kairofiloi” page, the situation in the mountains is quite the opposite.

Here is the detailed forecast:

A seasonal low-pressure system is affecting the region, while on Saturday, a disturbance from the north is expected to impact the island.

In the afternoon, in most parts of the island, the weather will be mostly clear with temporary increased cloud cover; however, in the mountains and possibly in inland areas, developing clouds may bring isolated rain, and isolated brief thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Winds will be southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 on the Beaufort scale, and the sea will be generally calm to slightly rough.

Tonight, the weather will remain mostly clear; however, at times—and particularly along the coast—there will be increased low-level cloud cover. Later on and during the early morning hours, patchy fog or mist is expected to form locally, mainly in areas to the south, east, and inland. Winds will be mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, initially light to moderate (3 to 4 Beaufort) and gradually becoming light (3 Beaufort). The sea will be calm to slightly rough. Temperatures will drop to around 21 degrees inland, around 23 degrees along the coast, and around 20 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.

Tomorrow, after the local low cloud cover and light fog or mist clear, the weather in most areas will be generally mostly clear with temporary increases in local cloud cover; however, after noon in the mountains and possibly in some inland areas, developing clouds are expected to bring isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms. Winds in the morning will be variable and light, at 3 Beaufort, gradually becoming mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and temporarily along the windward coasts in the afternoon, they may reach strong speeds of 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be generally calm to slightly rough in the morning; however, in the afternoon, it will be slightly rough locally along the windward coasts. Temperatures will rise to around 39 degrees inland, around 32 on the western and southwestern coasts, around 34 degrees along the rest of the coast, and around 30 degrees in the higher mountainous areas.

On Saturday, the weather will be mostly cloudy, with rain and localized thunderstorms expected. These weather phenomena are expected to be intense or even prolonged in some areas.

On Sunday, the weather will initially be mostly clear, however, increased cloud cover will gradually develop in some areas, which is expected to bring isolated showers or even thunderstorms after noon, mainly in the mountains and in areas south of the Troodos Mountains. On Monday, there will be periods of increased local cloud cover, while isolated showers cannot be ruled out in the mountains after noon.

Temperatures on Saturday will drop significantly and will be below normal for this time of year. On Sunday, temperatures will rise slightly, remaining at the same levels on Monday, but will continue to hover below the seasonal average.
