A weather system expected to bring heavy rainfall and thunderstorms is forecast to reach Cyprus from the west on Wednesday afternoon, according to a spokesperson for the Meteorological Department at CNA.
These conditions may last until Friday, while a more accurate picture of the system’s path is expected to be available on Monday.
Specifically, the system in question appears to be forming around midnight on Monday and moving from the Ionian Sea toward mainland Greece; it is estimated that it will then move toward the southern Aegean, eventually approaching Cyprus. When asked whether there is a possibility of heavy rainfall and flooding, the official in charge replied that thunderstorms could cause such phenomena.
Until Wednesday, only scattered showers are expected, mainly in the mountains and possibly in the interior and in the north. On Wednesday afternoon, the rain-bearing system is expected to initially affect the west and then move on to the rest of Cyprus.
