Wizz Air: Strengthens the Cyprus-Spain connection with a direct flight from Larnaca to Madrid (PHOTO)

The benefits of a direct connection to the Spanish capital
ALPHANEWSLIVE

One year after launching direct flights between Larnaca and Barcelona, Wizz Air is bringing Cyprus ever closer to the Iberian Peninsula. On September 24, the Hungarian airline launched its first direct flight from Larnaca Airport to Madrid Airport.

This way, Cypriot passengers avoid the hassle of connecting flights and have the opportunity to explore the Spanish capital. At the same time, Spanish tourists are presented with a unique opportunity to discover the beauty of Cyprus.

“This is a very significant development, both for Wizz Air and for Cyprus, as it opens a new connection to a capital city and marks our second route to Spain. We initially launched flights to Barcelona and now to Madrid from Cyprus. This development is very significant because it serves a country that was not previously served. And most importantly, both directions of the route are significant,” Wizz Air Network Director András Szabó told Alphanews.live.

He then went on to discuss potential new Wizz Air destinations from Cyprus. “We are constantly evaluating more opportunities and new routes. This is one of the responsibilities of the team I lead. Cyprus has good potential for further growth, and we are exploring new possibilities for next year.”

Regarding whether the Larnaca-Madrid route will bring Spanish tourists to Cyprus, Mr. Sambo stated: “Of course. One of the goals of this route is to increase visitor numbers and tourism in Cyprus. However, this route serves two destinations, so I’m sure that Spain is also an excellent destination for Cypriots. Both destinations are of great interest.”

Madrid: A Hub for Sports and Culture

The connection to Madrid gives Cypriot travelers the opportunity to discover a city that has, quite literally, everything. The “Bernabéu” and the “Metropolitano,” the home stadiums of Real Madrid and Atlético, are open year-round and can be visited even when there are no games taking place. At the same time, for culture lovers, there are the “Prado” and “Reina Sofía” museums, while getting around by public transportation is easy, as the metro has 10 (!) lines. Furthermore, Madrid serves as a bridge for students, as it greatly facilitates the experience for Cypriots participating in the Erasmus program.

Cyprus will also benefit from this connection, as it gives Spanish tourists the opportunity to discover the island year-round. From the enchanting beaches to the beautiful, picturesque villages in the Troodos Mountains.

As for flight frequency, there are three flights per week to and from Madrid, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
