Tense scenes unfolded on a flight from Larnaca to Birmingham, when four passengers decided to ignore international safety regulations and use e-cigarettes inside the aircraft cabin.
The five-hour flight on September 16 turned into an ordeal for dozens of travelers. Three women and one man, all British nationals, began vaping shortly after takeoff from Cyprus. Despite repeated reminders and stern warnings from the flight attendants, the group remained undeterred. They hid the devices between their legs and continued to vape in secret, provoking a strong reaction from the people sitting around them. The complaints had no effect.
When the police intervened, 31-year-old Annalise Galstaun recorded the scene on her cell phone. According to her, the atmosphere became stifling, and several children burst into tears due to the commotion. “We’re talking about adults who simply didn’t have the patience to wait until we landed to smoke,” she said, adding that the crew had repeatedly warned them, and that a fellow passenger had also filed a formal complaint.
The police officers’ arrival and the video
As soon as the aircraft touched down in Birmingham, the situation took an official turn. In the footage that was released, a crew member can be heard announcing that “the police are waiting for them downstairs.” A few seconds later, a police officer entered the cabin and addressed the four directly: “Would you please get off the plane?”
A woman with gray hair was the first to rise from her seat, followed by the other three people, who were escorted off the aircraft to provide explanations. The entire process took over 20 to 25 minutes on the ground, prolonging the passengers’ inconvenience.
