Three 18-year-olds were arrested and taken into custody early this morning pursuant to court warrants. The three detainees were taken into custody to facilitate the investigation into an ongoing case involving the infliction of serious bodily harm on a 47-year-old man in the Famagusta District.
The three suspects are expected to appear today before the Famagusta District Court for proceedings to issue detention orders against them.
The Famagusta CID is continuing its investigation.
It is recalled that the 47-year-old man was found injured on a street in Ayia Napa around 6:00 a.m. by police officers who rushed to the scene following a tip.
He was then transported to Famagusta General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a cerebral hemorrhage and a skull base fracture. Due to the severity of his condition, he was intubated and transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. His condition is considered by his attending physicians to be serious but stable.
According to a police statement, the Famagusta CID has obtained additional witness statements, according to which the 47-year-old was allegedly attacked by a group of foreigners, possibly of Asian descent; investigations are ongoing to locate and identify them.
