The Famagusta District Court ordered an eight-day pretrial detention for the three arrested individuals in connection with the assault case in Ayia Napa.
The three individuals, all 18 years old, were arrested and taken into custody early Monday morning to facilitate the investigation into an ongoing case involving the infliction of serious bodily harmto a 47-year-old man in the Famagusta district. One more person is still wanted in connection with the case.
It is recalled that the 47-year-old was found injured on a street in Ayia Napa around 6:00 a.m. by police officers who rushed to the scene following a tip.
He was then transported to the Famagusta General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a cerebral hemorrhage and a skull base fracture. Due to the severity of his condition, he was intubated and transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. His condition is considered by his attending physicians to be serious but stable.
According to a police statement, the Famagusta CID has obtained additional witness statements, according to which the 47-year-old was allegedly attacked by a group of foreigners, possibly of Asian descent, with investigations continuing to locate and identify them.
Speaking on the program “Alpha News,” Police Spokesperson Vyronas Vyronos clarified regarding the motives behind the incident that there is no evidence to suggest a hate crime.
