An alarm was sounded on Thursday afternoon in the area “Kapsali,” between the communities of Miliou and Giolos in the Paphos district, following a fire that broke out in dry grass, wild vegetation, and a number of trees.
According to the Fire Department, the call was received at 3:45 p.m., and a total of six fire trucks from the Paphos Fire Stations rushed to the scene.
The fire, which burned an area of approximately nine decares, was brought under control at 6:10 p.m., following a coordinated firefighting operation involving both ground and aerial units.
The Forestry Department assisted in the operation with a fire truck and a water transport vehicle, as did the Game and Fauna Service with a portable firefighting unit.
The assistance provided by the ATLAS-DIAS volunteer team and a leased earth-moving vehicle was also significant.
At the same time, four firefighting aircraft conducted water drops, helping to combat the fire and limit its spread.
Throughout the night, fire trucks remained in the area to respond to any potential flare-ups and to monitor the site.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
