The PASYDY Prison Guards’ Sectoral Council condemns the attack on a prison guard by an inmate while the guard was performing his duties, calling on the state and the relevant authorities to immediately take substantive measures to ensure the safety of Prison Department staff.
In a statement, the Sectoral Council expresses its solidarity with the prison guard who was attacked and wishes him a speedy and full recovery.
The union emphasizes that it maintains “zero tolerance” for incidents of violence against staff and calls on the competent authorities to address the issue of employee safety in the Prison Department with the seriousness it deserves.
At the same time, it calls for the immediate adoption of substantive measures to protect staff.
The issue of prison guards’ safety, it adds, will also be raised by PASYDY at the union’s upcoming meeting with the Minister of Justice.
