Currently, Larnaca Airport handles approximately 230 flights per day and serves around 36,000 passengers (departing and arriving) daily, noted Maria Kouroupi, Director of Aviation Development, Marketing, and Communications at Hermes Airports, Maria Kouroupi, in a statement to KYPE on the occasion of the reopening of road access to the arrivals area at Larnaca Airport.
Similarly, approximately 14,000 passengers travel to and from Paphos daily on 95 flights a day, she added.
Regarding the opening of the road to the arrivals area at Larnaca Airport, the Director of Aviation Development, Marketing and Communications at Hermes, explained that this allows private vehicles to pull over briefly to pick up passengers. She clarified that police officers are on site to direct traffic and prevent congestion.
Ms. Kouroupi reminded the public that there is also the option to park in the airport parking lot at a cost of 1 euro for up to 20 minutes, with the flexibility to pay by card upon exiting the lot.
According to announcements by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order and the Police, the road leading to the exits of the arrivals area at Larnaca Airport was reopened to traffic at 3:00 p.m. on August 7, with the aim of improving the smooth flow of traffic for vehicles using Larnaca Airport.
The Ministry of Justice explained that the decision was made following an initiative by Minister Costas Fytiris and a meeting he convened to address congestion at the airport, noting that the reopening of access was made possible following intensive efforts and close cooperation between the Police, the Department of Public Works, and Hermes Airports, which took the necessary steps.
The Police emphasized that all private vehicles may use the road leading to the arrivals area to pick up passengers, while taxis will be prohibited from passing through, as they will serve passengers for boarding exclusively from the designated areas that have been set up, west of the terminal buildings, near the bus waiting areas.
