At its meeting yesterday, the Council of Ministers approved the revision of the 2026 Allowance Plan to Support Residents of Mountainous Communities, as part of a series of measures to counter inflationary trends in the economy.
Specifically, yesterday’s decision increases the amount of the allowances to be paid for 2026 as follows:
- from €175 to €225 for communities at an altitude of 600 to 800 meters,
- from €225 to €275 for altitudes between 801 and 1,000 meters, and
- from €260 to €310 for communities at altitudes above 1,000 meters.
At the same time, the additional allowance for each retiree and non-retiree member of the household increases from €165 to €200.
Based on the revision of the Plan, the cost of providing the allowances increases from €9 million to approximately €10.4 million. Approximately 10,500 households and 24,000 beneficiaries will benefit from this decision.
It should be noted that the application period for beneficiaries has ended, and no new applications will be accepted. It should be noted that beneficiaries who have submitted an application will receive the new amounts automatically, and no action is required on their part.
The Cabinet’s decision is part of the Government’s broader policy to revitalize and develop communities through targeted measures. At the same time, it serves as tangible proof of the commitment to implementing policies that improve the quality of life for residents of mountainous areas and create conditions that allow families to remain in their communities.
