Airfare prices in Cyprus rose by 5% in August 2026, compared with the same month in 2025, while package tour prices rose by 3.7%.
According to data released Friday by Eurostat, at the EU level, passenger airfare prices fell by 0.4%, while package tour prices rose by 3.2%, in line with overall inflation.
According to the agency, the largest annual increases in airfare prices in August were recorded in Greece at 16.3% and in Ireland at 14.4%. In contrast, ten member states saw decreases in airfare prices, with Slovakia posting the largest drop, at 61.2%. In the other countries where decreases were recorded, they ranged from 15.8% in Spain to 0.9% in Lithuania.
As for package tours, Belgium recorded the largest annual increase, at 16.2%, followed by Portugal at 14.3%, Sweden with 12.8%, Lithuania with 12.3%, and Romania with 11.9%.
In contrast, four Member States recorded decreases in the prices of package tours. The largest decrease was in Estonia at 21.1%, followed by Spain at 5.2%, Italy at 4.8%, and Ireland at 0.4%.
Price fluctuations since early 2025
According to Eurostat, both package tour prices and passenger airfare prices have shown significant fluctuations since January 2025, with airfares showing the greatest volatility.
In April 2025, airfare prices had risen by 13.7% year-over-year, before falling by 3.2% the following month.
Fluctuations continued into 2026, with airfare prices falling 2.9% in January and 4.7% in April, while May saw an 8.1% increase.
Similarly, package tour prices had risen by 8.3% in January and 8% in February 2025, compared to the corresponding months of the previous year. In April 2025, the annual increase stood at 7.7%, while from June through October, the annual rates of change were closer to the general inflation rate.
In April 2026, prices for package vacations fell by 0.5% on a year-over-year basis, before rebounding in the following months and posting a 3.2% increase in August.
