Employment rose by 1.7% in terms of the number of people and 2.2% in terms of hours worked in the second quarter of 2026, according to data released Monday by the Statistical Service.
Specifically, the total number of people employed in the second quarter of 2026 is estimated at 525,167 people, of whom 472,254 are employees and 52,913 are self-employed.
Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2025, total employment for the second quarter of 2026 increased by 1.7%.
The most significant percentage increases were observed in the sectors of Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles, Construction, and Arts, Recreation and Entertainment.
In addition, actual hours worked for the second quarter of 2026 are estimated at 246,570 thousand, representing a 2.2% increase compared to the corresponding quarter of 2025.
The most significant percentage increases were also observed in the sectors of Wholesale and Retail Trade, Motor Vehicle Repair, Construction and Trades, Recreation and Entertainment.
