The “Together with the Baby and the Mother” Program, which was approved by the Council of Ministers, is expected to be implemented within the first quarter of 2027.

This program aims to support and empower new parents during their child’s first year of life, and provides for home visits by a social worker to inform and guide the family, so that needs and difficulties can be identified, and, where necessary, to facilitate coordination with the relevant services.

At the same time, a package of baby supplies and basic care items worth 1,000 euros per child will be provided.

“This isn’t just a package of baby supplies. It’s a different approach to social policy. We’re here to strengthen prevention and early intervention.”
Tina Pavlou – Deputy Minister of Social Welfare

Eligible families include those receiving the Guaranteed Minimum Income and those with a gross family income of up to 22,000 euros, based on established criteria.

The program is expected to benefit 1,000 families annually.

Free Breakfast

Starting next school year, all students at sports-focused middle and high schools will receive a free, healthy breakfast after their morning practice, which takes place three times a week.

“This is a significant step toward supporting our children, who are high-achieving students and, at the same time, follow a very intensive training program to maintain their high performance levels.”
Athina Michailidou – Minister of Education

SYOP Promotion

The Cabinet has also given the green light for the promotion of 400 Contracted Privates to Contracted Non-Commissioned Officers, with the highest rank attainable being that of Sergeant First Class.

Recruitment will be based on the ranking order resulting from the selection process, which included, among other things, written exams, and will take effect on November 1, 2026.

“This is the continuation of a targeted reform that recognizes the contribution of SYOP members and strengthens their prospects for professional advancement and development.”
Vasilis Palmas – Minister of Defense
