The Ministry of Finance conducts a daily assessment of geopolitical developments and their impact on citizens’ daily lives, which, in a statement, emphasizes the implementation of specific relief measures. As noted, government policy focuses on supporting all citizens, particularly vulnerable groups.
Among the measures already in effect are the elimination of the VAT on basic products, such as fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, as well as essential items such as infant formula, diapers, and feminine hygiene products. At the same time, a reduced VAT rate of 5% applies to electricity consumption for approximately 33,000 low-income pensioners, low-income households, and single-parent families, while there is a reduction in the excise tax on motor fuels of 8.33 cents per liter. The support measures also include an increase in the child allowance through the expansion of the income eligibility criteria.
The Ministry of Finance also highlights the benefits for workers and households resulting from the tax reform, focusing on the increase in the tax-free income threshold to 22,000 euros and the related tax deductions. According to the announcement, these measures are the result of responsible economic policy, budget surpluses, and the reduction of public debt.
At the same time, it is noted that the government is monitoring the needs of society and that the Ministry of Finance is already working on additional measures that are expected to be presented to the Council of Ministers. Commenting on the protests, the Ministry notes that it recognizes citizens’ democratic right to protest, while emphasizing that the government is exhausting every possible means of responding, always within the framework of maintaining sound public finances and fulfilling its European obligations.
