The Annual General Meeting of the Cyprus Bankers’ Association was held with great success and a large turnout, marking yet another year as the largest and most significant gathering for the country’s financial sector. This year’s event brought together more than 250 executives from the banking sector, political leaders, the public sector, as well as representatives of independent bodies, supervisory authorities, and private companies.
The Minister of Finance delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the stability and dynamism of the Cypriot economy as well as the country’s banking sector. On behalf of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Annita Dimitriou, the greeting was read by Savia Orfanidou, a DISY member of parliament from Nicosia. Also significant was the address by the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, Christodoulos Patsalides, who focused on the challenges and opportunities of the modern supervisory environment.
Also speaking at the event were Panikos Nikolaou, President of the Cyprus Bankers’ Association, and Marios Skandalis, General Manager. In their remarks, they analyzed the year’s achievements, the sector’s strategic priorities, and the transformation of Cypriot banks.
The Common Message of the General Assembly
A common thread running through the remarks of all guests and speakers was the recognition of the parallel, positive trajectory being followed by the Cypriot economy and the domestic banking system. At the same time, the urgent need for further improvement, vigilance, and systematic work, with the aim of building an even more solid foundation upon the positive milestones Cyprus has achieved in recent years.
The banking sector, having now turned a new page, sets the tone for the positive impact it makes every day on the economy and society. By ensuring financial stability and supporting entrepreneurship, banks reaffirm their role as a key pillar of growth and social cohesion for the country.
