The AHK labor unions are escalating their measures, announcing that starting Thursday, July 9, at 7:00 a.m., shifts at the Vasilikos, Dekeleia, and Moni power plants will operate with a skeleton crew, as stated in their letter to the General Director of the AHK. At the same time, they have announced that, as of that date, no units will be added to or removed from the power grid.

The trade unions EPOPAI, SIDIKEK AHK, SEPAIK, and SYBAIK report that there has been no substantial progress in resolving the problems faced by the EAC and the electricity sector, despite the time allotted following the previous work stoppages.

In their letter, they express deep concern about the situation in the electricity sector, arguing that it is due to a lack of strategic planning and inaction on the part of the relevant authorities.

As they state, “the dire situation in which the electricity sector finds itself, with its negative consequences for consumers and the local economy, continues to have adverse effects on the Authority’s operations.”

“The government should be focusing on what needs to be done to ensure an adequate electricity supply, security of supply, support for consumers, access to solar power for everyone, and lower costs for consumers,” they note in the letter.

““During your previous work stoppages, we conveyed to you the staff’s determination to continue fighting to protect and safeguard our Organization, for the benefit of the local economy and consumers,”, the labor unions add.

“Although we have given ample time, there has been no progress toward resolving the issues that we have consistently raised and that affect the sustainability of our Organization, electricity costs, and service adequacy,” they conclude.
