There should be consultation on the regulation of sick leave in the public sector without unilateral actions, PASYDY Secretary-General Stratis Matthaiou, told KYPE when asked about the intention expressed by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, to introduce legislation on the matter.
“We have been informed by the media regarding the statements made by the Minister of Justice, Mr. Fytiris, on the issues of sick leave in the public sector and possibly in the broader public sector,” he said.
“We support the fight against abuse. We clearly stand with the Minister on the issue of the abuse of sick leave,” he emphasized.
“However, at the same time, we are making it clear that we are not willing to abolish acquired rights,” Mr. Matthaiou emphasized, adding that “our concern is for chronically ill patients.”
“In any case, what we are asking for is consultation on these matters, not unilateral actions,” he noted.
When asked whether PASYDY is ready for a dialogue with the government on the issue, the organization’s Secretary-General replied in the affirmative, noting that he would contact the Minister of Justice to request an update.
