No complaint has been filed with PASYXE regarding illegal employment at hotels that are members of the association, the association’s General Director, Christos Angelidis, told CNA. When asked to comment on allegations made by the SEK and PEO unions regarding the practice of hiring temporary workers in hotels, Mr. Angelides stated that “PASYXE has not, to date, received any complaints or evidence substantiating illegal employment at hotels that are members of the Association,” while calling on “anyone in possession of specific evidence regarding a possible violation of the law or collective bargaining agreements to submit it to the competent authorities.”

He also commented on the issue of recruiting staff in the hotel industry—one of the sector’s most significant challenges—noting that “one of the options provided by current legislation is to collaborate with licensed staffing agencies from third countries,” emphasizing that this is done on the condition that the current legal framework is fully complied with and workers’ rights are safeguarded.

He added that strict enforcement of the law is a fundamental prerequisite for equality, transparency, smooth operation, and growth in the sector. He also stated that “as the institutional body representing the hotel industry, PASYXE encourages its members to strictly comply with labor laws and the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.”

Mr. Angelides called for cooperation among all stakeholders with the aim of strengthening the tourism sector and its competitiveness. “Tourism is a key pillar of the Cypriot economy, and effectively addressing the challenges requires the cooperation of all stakeholders, with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness and sustainability of the tourism sector,” he concluded.
