To expedite the processing of student grant applications, the Ministry of Finance has approved the use of overtime, where deemed necessary, and is simultaneously reinforcing the Service with staff from other organizational units, on an ad hoc basis and in accordance with operational needs. The application review process is expected to be completed by the end of September.
This is stated in a response from Finance Minister Makis Keravnos, dated August 7, to a question submitted by DISY MP Prodromos Alambritis regarding delays in the review of applications and the disbursement of funds.
The Ministry of Finance clarifies that the start of the application period for the 2025–2026 academic year was delayed, due to the passage of pending legislative changes in Parliament to amend the relevant laws, which affected the time required for preparation and implementation.
It also notes that the repeated extensions of the submission deadline may result in a longer time required to complete the application review process, but these were deemed necessary and imperative in order to ensure that no eligible student would be deprived of the right to apply for and claim the grant to which they are entitled.
According to the Ministry of Finance’s response, the review of applications began in late June, and 30% of the submitted applications have already been reviewed. As of July 9, approximately 17,000 applications had been submitted, and according to the Ministry of Finance, the review of applications from previous academic years has been completed, and there are no pending applications.
It is also noted that digitization is a key priority and a necessary prerequisite for modernizing public administration and improving the services provided. In this context, it adds, the Ministry is systematically promoting the digitization of procedures and services wherever this is feasible and operationally viable.
