“The meeting is primarily constructive in the context of further strengthening the already close economic and trade relations between Cyprus and Greece,” he noted.
As he explained, the meeting focuses on the portfolio of the Ministry of Energy, Trade, and Industry, specifically regarding international trade, noting that Greece is an important partner for Cyprus in both imports and exports.
“In 2025, total trade in goods between the two countries had reached 3.3 billion,” the Minister stated, adding that Greece is “a very important partner, beyond all the other reasons why Greece is important to Cyprus.”
He also clarified that the meeting would not address foreign policy issues, but rather primarily trade matters.
Brief Discussion with Herzog
When asked about energy issues concerning Cyprus-Israel relations, in light of the recent visit to Cyprus by Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Cyprus, Mr. Damianos noted that, during their meeting at the airport, they had a brief discussion on issues such as the closure of the Aphrodite – Isai and the electricity interconnection, which was more of a courtesy call.
