A meeting was recently held between the leadership of the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB), led by its President, George Pantelidis, and the senior management of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) took place recently. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the conclusions of the High-Level Workshop on Reducing Electricity Costs, which was organized by the OEB on July 15, 2026, with the participation of all relevant stakeholders.

The OEB’s goal is to continue the institutional dialogue, exchange views, and discuss proposals that could contribute to improving the functioning of the electricity market and to the gradual reduction of energy costs.

The discussion focused on the key issues that have emerged during the first year of operation of the Competitive Electricity Market, with an emphasis on the quality and timely availability of metering data, market settlement procedures, as well as the need to enhance the transparency and predictability of billing.

Particular mention was made of addressing curtailments of production from renewable energy sources, accelerating the development of energy storage systems and the modernization of grids, as well as leveraging smart meters and dynamic pricing for the benefit of businesses and consumers.

The OEB President emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation among all stakeholders in addressing high energy costs. In this context, the OEB will continue to take initiatives and promote proposals that can lead to tangible results for the benefit of the economy and society.
