On October 6, the Technical Committee will begin its discussion on the second pillar, with weekly discussions every Tuesday, after which the discussion will be transferred to the Labor Advisory Council (LAC), said Labor Minister Marinos Mousiouttas, stated in his opening remarks to the Labor Advisory Council on Monday morning.
The Minister also noted that the Labor Advisory Council’s meetings will continue every Monday and Thursday, with the exception of October 1 and October 19, when he will be absent.
When asked by the Secretary General of the PEO when the bill would be submitted, the Minister replied that it would be submitted within the next few days, but that this “doesn’t matter at all,” since discussions can continue, as he said, “and if there’s anything we need to change, we’ll change it”.
He also added that on October 6, and every week thereafter, the Technical Committee will meet to discuss the second pillar. “We are ready to continue the dialogue weekly every Tuesday, and at some point it will be incorporated into the Labor Advisory Body, depending on the progress of the work, so that, if we manage to reach a framework agreement, we can brief the House of Representatives.”
“We want the second pillar to move forward as well,” he said.
The Minister spoke of a framework agreement for the second pillar, noting that “it is clear that no bill will be introduced, but there will be a roadmap outlining the basic principles that will govern the second pillar.”
SEK Secretary-General Andreas Matsas asked the Minister why a bill on the second pillar would not be introduced, noting that “the consensus was that it would not be implemented simultaneously with the rest of the pension reform.”
Mr. Mousiouttas said there was no room to introduce a bill. “We haven’t agreed on anything—how could it be introduced? We said that implementing the second pillar will take 3–4 years. The discussion will begin,” he said.
