Tourist traffic at the island’s hotels picked up in the middle of August.

Expectations for last-minute bookings were confirmed in most cases, bringing smiles of satisfaction to business owners in the industry.

“Occupancy rates are rising. From Paphos to free-access Famagusta, we’re averaging around 85%. There are also some days when occupancy rates are even higher. Larnaca is running a bit lower, but we hope it will recover toward the end of the month; Limassol is also performing quite well, at around 85%. Then there are our mountain resorts, which are really in the spotlight this month.”
Christos Angelides – General Manager of PASYXE

The overwhelming majority of those placing their trust in Cypriot hotels are tourists from traditional markets, namely the United Kingdom, Israel, Poland, Germany, and the Nordic countries.

“Efforts are now, of course, focused on the fall season, which is currently down by about 15% compared to last year, and that is where we will concentrate our efforts from now until the end of November.”
Christos Angelidis – General Manager of PASYXE

Declining revenues are a blow to the sector. Given the losses recorded from March through May, it is estimated that turnover has fallen by 10 to 15% compared to last year.
