The labor unions OEKDY SEK, PASYEK, PEO, and DEE KDOKO DEOK will meet with Finance Minister Makis Keravnos today at 12:00 p.m. to discuss hourly wages for government employees. During the meeting, there will be an exchange of views, and the positions of both sides as well as points of agreement will be documented, in order to lay the groundwork for the unions’ meeting next Monday with the President of the Republic.

“We are holding the President of the Republic to his commitment that the need for wage increases is recognized. Ways must be found to increase wages,” PASYEK-PEO General Secretary Stavros Andreou told CNA.

“We will not back down from our positions and principles. We will renew the collective bargaining agreement only if wages are improved,” he clarified.

Mr. Andreou noted that “if we do not make significant progress in the next two meetings (with the Ministry of Finance and the President of the Republic), we will announce countermeasures on Monday without further delay.”

“We hope the government will show social sensitivity. Our demands are fully justified, and there are no unreasonable requests,” said George Konstantinou, General Secretary of OEKDY–SEK, in a statement to KYPE.

“Our demand is for wages to be improved so that people can meet their daily needs for survival,” he noted.

Mr. Konstantinou emphasized that if no agreement is reached, they will take action. “We’re not saying this as a threat; we’re saying it because we have no other choice,” he said.
