Jean-Paul Rappeneau, one of the most important figures in French cinema and the man behind the award-winning film adaptation of “Cyrano de Bergerac,” starring Gérard Depardieu.
The news was reported to the Agence France-Presse (AFP) by one of his sons on Wednesday, September 2. His death marks the loss of a filmmaker who left his own mark on French cinema.
Although his filmography as a director consists of only eight films, Jean-Paul Rappeneau managed to carve out a unique place for himself in his country’s cinematic landscape.
His productions combined popular appeal with artistic recognition, and throughout his long career, he collaborated with some of France’s most acclaimed actors and filmmakers.
