The news of the death of Giorgos Mazonakis has caused great sadness in the artistic community and among the public; who passed away at the age of 54, leaving behind a long and truly remarkable career in Greek music.
The popular singer suffered a cardiac arrest and was rushed to Elpis Hospital.

According to the hospital’s official statement, Giorgos Mazonakis was admitted at 4:45 p.m. on September 9, without spontaneous breathing or a pulse. Despite efforts at cardiopulmonary resuscitation, it was not possible to revive him. The official time of death was recorded as 5:40 p.m.
The festival in Kamena Vourla, where Chara Verra was performing, marked his last public appearance last July.
