The countdown to the return of *Harry Potter* to television has begun, and HBO has just released a new trailer, opening the door even wider to this new take on the Wizarding World.
Just a few months before the series premiere, the new footage takes viewers back to the halls of Hogwarts and reveals some of the most iconic moments from J.K. Rowling’s first book—from the Sorting Ceremony and the first magic lessons to Quidditch, the Invisibility Cloak, and the mystery of the Philosopher’s Stone.
In the lead role is Dominic McLaughlin, who takes on the challenge of bringing his own interpretation to the young wizard who became a global cinematic phenomenon thanks to Daniel Radcliffe. By his side, Alastair Stout plays Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton plays Hermione Granger.
Harry’s first great adventure comes to life again
The new trailer follows Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s arrival at Hogwarts and takes us to the famous Sorting Ceremony, where the three friends are sorted into Gryffindor. Harry meets Dumbledore, Snape, Professor McGonagall, and Hagrid; attends his first classes in Herbology and Potions; and, of course, climbs onto a broomstick to test his Quidditch skills.
But magic soon gives way to mystery.
The first season will follow the story of *Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone*, with the trailer revealing moments that fans know well: the troll in the Hogwarts bathrooms, the challenging game of magical chess, the Invisibility Cloak, and the mysterious Mirror of Erised.
The new Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, and Hagrid
One of the biggest challenges of the TV adaptation is, of course, the new cast, as the actors are called upon to take on characters that have been associated for more than two decades with very specific faces on the big screen. John Lithgow plays Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer plays Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu plays Severus Snape, and Nick Frost plays Rubeus Hagrid.
The cast also includes Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, and Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy.
Among the younger actors are Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Gracie Cochrane as Ginny Weasley, and Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas.
When does the “Harry Potter” series premiere?
The first season will consist of eight episodes and is scheduled to premiere during the 2026 Christmas season. It will be based on the first book in the series, and HBO plans to adapt all seven books into separate TV seasons.
