Nine years after her first translation, Emily Wilson has decided to return to *The Odyssey* and take a fresh look at the Homeric epic.
The classicist and professor at the University of Pennsylvania is already working on a brand-new English translation of the work, which she is creating from scratch rather than as a mere revision of her previous edition.
The 2017 translation was a major publishing event, as Emily Wilson became the first woman to publish a complete English translation of the *Odyssey*. The book gained a large audience, sold over one million copies, and became known for the modern and direct way in which it rendered a work nearly three thousand years old.
