The news of the death of Maros Kontou, on Wednesday, July 15, at the age of 92, has plunged the artistic world and the public who adored her for more than six decades into mourning. This iconic leading lady of Greek cinema and theater left behind a remarkable artistic legacy, as well as the image of a woman who maintained her dignity, kindness, and optimism until the very end.

Recently, she had been hospitalized at the “Agios Savvas” General Anticancer–Oncology Hospital in Athens, fighting her own battle with serious health issues.
According to those close to her, she remained mentally alert until her final days, continuing to make plans for the things she wanted to do once she returned home.
