The trendy water activities the royals loved to do in the summer

From sailing and water skiing to diving off luxury yachts, the royals’ summer vacations have always had a more adventurous side.

Before summer snapshots of the royals started appearing on Instagram Stories, at staged photo ops, and during arrivals in designer resort wear, Europe’s royal families spent their vacations much more actively than we might imagine.

Far from official ceremonies and strict protocol, kings, princes, and princesses were photographed on sailboats, tried their hand at water skiing, swam in secluded coves, and dived off the decks of luxury yachts. Activities that today flood social media and are hailed as the ultimate summer trends were already part of royal vacations decades ago.
